Would you like to grow closer to Jesus?
His Mother Mary will lead you to Him.The Mission of the Legion of Mary is to work for the glory of God, the sanctification of our members, and the salvation of souls, by becoming instruments of the Holy Spirit through prayer and service. Our members are active in performing spiritual works of mercy such as:
- Providing Holy medals, rosaries, books, Bibles, and prayer cards at no cost to interested clients of the Saint Vincent de Paul Food Pantry on Friday mornings.
- Offering Home Enthronements of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary in May - October each year and by request.
- Offering the Pilgrim Virgin Statue of the Blessed Mother for one-week visits in parishioners' homes throughout the year
- Inviting parishioners to participate in a Rosary Cemetery Walk each November. We gather at a local cemetery to walk the grounds, recite the Rosary, and pray for the souls of departed beloved parishioners.
- Offering other Spiritual Works of Mercy such as bringing the Eucharist to nursing homes, teaching religious education, and providing home visits and phone calls to the grieving, sick, and homebound.

The Legion has two types of memberships:

Active members meet weekly and participate in one or more of the activites shown above. These weekly meetings are held on Saturdays at 9:15 a.m. (after morning Mass) in the Family Life Center Classroom 10 (southeast corner).
Each year in March, our members participate in the
Acies, a gathering of area Legion members wishing to renew the Legionary Promises made at the time they first became a member. Once a year, our members participate in the Legion of Mary Retreat, a gathering of the Legion members from six Catholic Churches in our area.

Auxiliary members support the work of the Active members through daily recitation of the Rosary and a short collection of prayers called the Tessera. Meetings and other activities are optional.

HistoryThe Legion is a Catholic apostolic lay organization that was founded in Dublin, Ireland in 1921. Our founder, Servant of God Frank Duff was inspired by the corporeal works of mercy (food, clothing, and shelter) provided by the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul to the poor of Dublin in the 1920s. While the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul provided corporeal support, there was no lay organization providing the desperately needed spiritual support to the poor at that time. In this regard, Frank Duff founded the Legion of Mary using the model of Marian Devotion from Saint Louis Marie de Monfort.
Today, one of the largest Catholic Lay organizations, the Legion has 14 million members in 160 countries. The St. Stephen Praesidium began meeting in 2008. Membership is open to all adults in our parish. No special skills or advanced spirituality are required.
